Conducting a social experiment on humans where they are put in an environment that depicts the escalating animal cruelty happening around the world. Role Reversal is a version or role-play where the designer/ researcher consciously plays roles that contrast with each other, in order to evaluate an idea, concept or design from two endpoints. By employing this method, we can potentially look for conflicts in the proposition and creatively resolve any conflicts.

AUGMENTED REALITY: Mapping/superimposing digitally-generated scenes onto the real world VIRTUAL REALITY: Virtual Reality (VR) is a computer-generated environment with scenes and objects that appear to be real, making the user feel they are immersed in their surroundings

Zoned in a manner that one knows what to do in the moment, but they don’t know what for and why. Until reality slaps them in some literal elements placed throughout to make sense of the whole experience.

First Floor Plan

Sections: A-A’= Aesthetically flushing waiting area to trigger one through a clinically designed space and imply the torture that research lab animals go through. B-B’= After a spinal slide transition one enters the marine life zone where one is splashed into a pool of (treated) plastic. One cannot feel a solid ground, ergo the waterbed pad flooring; there are turbine fans installed on the side elevations to trigger one’s temperature-because then the participants would have to take refuge in the solar power go through fiberglass whale’s carcass and turtle shells as obstacles. On the side elevations plastic has been upcycled into illuminated coral reefs sculptures to enhance the use of plastic in spatial elements.

C-C’= Land area is entered after changing into a dry tracksuit, as soon as you enter the Steampunk themed space; automatic paintball guns installed on side elevations start shooting the participants to trigger the trophy hunting aspect of animal cruelty. The race to hide begins in a barren deforestation affected space with sand dunes and sliced tree trunks spread all over. One can only hide in the ditches but not for more than 10 seconds because of the spotlights suspended 7 feet from the floor level. D-D’= After changing the tracksuit again the sky animal space is introduced to the participants, where opulence is being mocked with over exaggerated elements of general perception of a Karachite’s power and wealth shown through the ownership of exotic animals. One gets a choice to either drink water from a one nozzle fountain or enjoy indoor skydiving.

Views: Vegan food court is entered through the escalator on the façade where as you enter vegan test food is served in shelves; Mushroom forest theme to spatially contrast with mushrooms being a local supplement for our meat-loving general public. Triggers are aesthetically placed intentionally for example the ice-cream station having a sleeping cow’s sculpture whose udders are used to get the vegan ice cream out and be served.

Views: 3RD audience will experience the whole space in birdcage ride which acts as a transition in itself. After an illuminated ribcage terminal is passed through one enters the ride and it connects both the floors and experiences visually and physically. For example in the Marine life zone the audience has an option of either enjoying an AR circus or the public suffering below them. As the ground floor consumers are changing in the transition space, the birdcage ride moves to the land area-all to trigger a role reversal on a modern day Colosseum entendre.

Executive Control room has a one-sided window opening to the Land Area for observance and a screen in between to show who has been shot with paintballs at a maximum capacity. Kitchen of the vegan food court.
