Saibaan-e-Hunar This thesis explores the notion of renewal of an object space and person and whether they are correlated. By using an abandoned building in the old part of the city (Arambagh) with great historic value and presence that has been forgotten, and using scrap materials taken from the markets around the site used to make objects and furniture pieces as renewal of an object. The elder citizens working in the nearby markets would be indulging in upcycling crafts which they will also be selling as an added source of income. Giving the elderly a new purpose in life as well as an opportunity to give back to the society by indulging in sustainable activities as well as, Providing the elder citizens with entertainment and physical activities as part of renewal of a person.

Taking materials from the markets surrounding the site and using them for upcycling projects and furniture. Taking from the markets and giving back to the society and neighborhood by creating and selling recycled objects.
Abandoned old building of Arambagh with great historic value as seen through its intricate details that stands there completely underutilized, not being able to show its true potential. This building was chosen to be renewed in terms of adding life into it by giving it a function that helps in the renewal of the elderly and brings together the neighborhood.
looking at activities for the elderly in terms of healthcare through physical and mental wellbeing derived from the context of the neighborhood and the type of activities that would benefit the elderly living in the vicinity not just physically but mentally as well.
These are a few furniture pieces that are designed using scrap materials that are reused and repurposed such as reclaimed wood, old doors and windows, scrap tires and cloth fabric.
The ground floor opens up to the street and allows the city to enter the building through two front retail spaces that sell recycled objects made by the elderly themselves. Moving forward they can see the craft being done and the elderly working showing that they are still useful and have a purpose in life that keeps them thriving. Then there is the chai khana that displays the craft of cooking that are age-old technique of cooking old dishes that are not being celebrated now. People can come grab something to eat and take away or sit with an elderly and have a conversation sharing life stories. The second floor is also open to the public. They can come up to see the elderly working while playing indoor games while taking a break as well as having two workshop spaces for wood and tire cutting. Up front is the retail of furniture in the balcony area.
the second and third floors are private and just for the users that are the elderly citizens of the neighborhood. These floors are dedicated to the renewal of themselves and their physical and mental well-being through entertainment activities such as movie screening, barbeque, catering for events such as birthdays and anniversaries including a dance floor for musical events and parties. The third floor consists of activities that cater to renewal of their body and muscles such as yoga, and outdoor exercise and also their mental stability by reading old books and sharing stories and interacting and socializing with their friends in an open space.
the lighting selection includes luminaires mostly made out of recycled materials such as acrylic and scrap paper and old books. There is general lighting done through recessed luminaires and outdoor lighting done by adding outdoor bulb strips.
the sections display the activities that are being done on each floor placed together as the ground and first floor focus on the renewal of an object and the second and third focus on renewal of a person and all four of the floors correlate to the renewal of the space that is its function.
