Findings at Keamari Fisheries

My thesis concept is based on the fisheries of Keamari. Keamari is the heart of Karachi, bordered on three sides by the Hub River, Lyari River and the Arabian Sea. Thus, it is the center of fish supply for Karachi. In this thesis, I want to find extraordinary in the mundane, it’s the fisheries lost in the everyday normalcy of fish dining or sea food which intrigued me. I have photographed the fishes with my prime focus on Dandiya, Heera and Mui. Sketched and deduced my weave structures from the fish scales. I have used silk threads in various thread counts to attain the fish's iridescent visual feature. Holistically, this woven collection is an ode to the city I grew up in.
